The Mill House Grill was opened by Stacey DuVall-Tice, resident of Fawn Grove since she was 5. She is the granddaughter of T.J. Phillips who operated the sawmill on the property where the restaurant is located today at 106 Mill Street. She graduated in 1992 from Kennard-Dale High School and went on to receive her Associates Degree from Consolidated School of Business in 1993. She worked at the Pizza Barn while in school. After school she got an office job and kept thinking about having her own pizza business. The opportunity came in the summer of 1995 when the former Pizza Barn closed and the contents were sold at auction. Stacey bought the major equipment at this auction. The store was in need of cleaning and painting and minor renovations. On September 20, 1995 the store opened as The Mill House Grill. Stacey and her husband Bruce worked there in the beginning from open to close to try and build up the business. Bringing great food at a good price in a clean environment has been the goal. The restaurant is busiest during the school year and has been referred to as the “snack shop” for school and sports events. The restaurant operated at this location until August 2004 when it closed due to renovations of a new location across the street at the former T.J. Phillips & Son sawmill property. The old sawmill office was renovated and a new sewer system was installed. The property is now owned by Karen and Larry Heaps of Fawn Grove Florist and Nursery. All renovations were made by Karen and Larry, Stacey and her husband Bruce and his sister and brother-in law. After 4 ½ months of hard work the restaurant reopened December 16, 2004 with a new look and the same great food. The new dining room has 13 red tables with metal trim and a black & white checkered floor. The Coca Cola theme was used for decorating. The dining room seats about 50 people and is smoke free and handicap accessible. Most of the equipment from the old place was replaced with newer, more efficient equipment and a walk in freezer was added. The restaurant offers fresh dough pizza, stromboli, subs, sandwiches, salads, beer battered shrimp baskets, soft ice cream, banana splits, sundaes, shakes, Coca Cola fountain sodas and more. There is something for everyone on the menu. It is open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner. Order your food at the counter and then sit back and relax and they will bring it out to you.
